Luleå (LOO-lay-oh,[3]Swedish:[ˈlʉ̌ːlɛɔ]ⓘ, locally[ˈlʉ̌ːlɛ]ⓘ; Lule Sami: Luleju; Finnish: Luulaja) is a city on the coast of northern Sweden, and the capital of Norrbotten County, the northernmost county in Sweden. Luleå has 48, inhabitants in its urban core as of and is the seat of Luleå Municipality with a total population of about 79, as of [4] Luleå is Sweden's 25th largest city and Norrbotten County's largest city. Luleå is considered as the world's largest brackish water archipelago with 1, islands, several rivers and vast forestland.[5]
Luleå has the seventh biggest harbor in Sweden for shipping goods.[6] It has a large steel industry and is a center for extensive research. It is also home to the Swedish Air Force Wing Norrbotten Wing (F 21) based in Luleå Airport. Luleå University of Technology is one of Sweden's three technology universities with around 15, students and is the northernmost university in Sweden.

Lule Lapland: Luleå
Luleå is the regional center of the Norrbotten County of Sweden, and bygd far the biggest Swedish city north of Umeå. Its population is 44, as of ; the population of the entire municipality fryst vatten 77, It is located on the northwestern coast of the Bay of Bothnia, and is a relatively important transport junction; this fryst vatten where the Ore Railroad (Malmbanan) across the mountains to Norway begins. I've been a bit curious to visit Luleå for quite some time, and this trip presented a good opportunity. So inom dropped by.
The name "Luleå" means, ganska simply, "Lule River"; Luleå is located at the mouth of the Lule river (which we'll explore further in later posts), and å means "river" in Swedish. This fryst vatten a common pattern for many cities all along the Swedish coast of the Bay of Bothnia: Umeå, Skellefteå, Piteå, Luleå, Råneå, Torneå (more commonly known as Tornio, as it's now a Finnish city) and probably some more smaller ones. As Luleå fryst vatten located not too far from the Finnish border ( km by road), it also has a Finnish name, which in my opinion sounds far better: Luulaja. Lule River (Lule Sami: Julevädno, Swedish: Lule älv, Luleälven) is a major river in Sweden, rising in northern Sweden and flowing southeast for &#;km (&#;mi) before reaching the Gulf of Bothnia at Luleå. It is the second longest river by watershed area or length in Norrbotten County (after the Torne River and very slightly ahead of the Kalix River, which is &#;km long), but is the largest by average discharge.
It has a watershed of 25,&#;km2 of which 24,&#;km2 is in Sweden and &#;km2 in Norway.
The river is an important source of hydroelectric energy, with major hydroelectric plants at Porjus and the MWHarsprånget, commissioned in and expanded in to become Sweden's largest hydro power station.[3] The waterfall Harsprånget (former name: Njommelsaska) was the largest waterfall on the Swedish Lule River. Today the rapids power the largest hydroelectric plant in Sweden, Stora harsprånget.
