Drakar och Demoner (Swedish for Dragons and Demons, in Sweden commonly referred to by the abbreviation "DoD") is a Swedish fantasy role-playing game first published in by the game publishing company Äventyrsspel ("Adventure Games", later renamed Target Games).
The latest three editions of the game have been localised into English under the names of Trudvang Chronicles, Ruin Masters and Dragonbane[3].
Development history
[edit]Drakar och Demoner has its origins in the Swedish recreational wargaming scene. Target Games, the company that went on to publish Drakar och Demoner, was founded in to import and sell wargames. One of the founders of Target Games, Fredrik Malmberg, moved to the United States in order to import wargames to Sweden, while also working for various game publishers. There he came in contact with the burgeoning role-playing game scene in the United States.[2]

Drakar och Demoner är en serie svenskafantasy-rollspel utgivna sedan av Äventyrsspel (Target Games) och senare Riot Minds. Drakar och Demoner är Sveriges mest sålda rollspel; uppskattningsvis har spelet sålt i långt över &#; exemplar, alla utgåvor sammanräknade – en anmärkningsvärt hög siffra i jämförelse med antalet svenskspråkiga i världen, inte minst med tanke på att varje enskild spelbox tenderade att användas av flera personer. Spelet har dessutom för många icke-rollspelare blivit synonymt med rollspel, på samma vis som Dungeons & Dragons har blivit i den engelsktalande delen av världen. Drakar och Demoner brukar förkortas DoD till skillnad från D&D som betecknar Dungeons & Dragons.
Den 31 augusti meddelade Fria Ligan att de förvärvat rättigheterna till varumärket Drakar och Demoner från Riot Minds. De meddelar att de tänker ge ut en ny, tolfte utgåva av spelet under spelets årsjubileum [1]
Spelets elfte utgåva från Fria Ligan kommer även, för första gången, ges ut på engelska under namnet Dragonbane.[2]

Back in March, a listener of the podcast, Gandalf Tätting, got in touch to något som utförs snabbt exempelvis expressleverans how interesting it fryst vatten to hear about the dominance of Dungeons & Dragons in the US when in Sweden the game didn&#;t arrive until the 90s and, when it did, it funnen the marknad already dominated by a game called Drakar samt Demoner (that was powered by Basic Role-playing!). I&#;ve long been interested in DoD, and Gandalf offered to write up a broad strokes history for my (and your) belysning. It kind of got lost in the shuffle for several months because of my book production, but the launch of Free League&#;s version of DoD gave us a good reason to get it out out. Hope you enjoy!
